Sorry We are CLOSED.

We thank YOU very much for your business. CLOSED Effective Tuesday, May 17, 2022.

Please allow me to set the record straight about The Maritime Museum of Amelia Island, Inc.
a 501c entity, (Maritime Museum). The Maritime Museum has been at its present location of 115 South 2nd street, since 2016. During the Maritime Museum’s tenure at this location, the City of Fernandina Beach has been incredibly supportive of the Maritime Museum and all of our endeavors. The City Manager, Mr. Dale Martin has gone out of his way to help us find a permanent location for the Maritime Museum and he was highly active in trying to help the Maritime Museum stay at its present location. The City of Fernandina is changing and building spaces such as the Maritime Museum occupied is at a premium.

As we all know, our world has changed in the last two and a half years, and it has been exceedingly difficult to keep the Maritime Museum open. The owner of the building has worked with us, or we would not have made it past December 2020. It was a hard decision to close the Maritime Museum, but the building has been sold and I could not see a way forward.

As for the artifacts and displays. The three large ship models are being transferred to the Jacksonville Naval Museum. One of these models is a WWII Gearing Class Destroyer, almost identical to the USS Orleck that was recently brought to Jacksonville as its permanent home, as a museum. In addition to the large ship models, the Maritime Museum is transferring many more WWII period items to the Jacksonville Naval Museum.

All of the display cases and many of the 17th and 18th century items are being transferred to the Mel Fisher Museum in Sebastian, Florida. This includes the large canon and many other artifacts.

I would like to thank the many people that supported the Maritime Museum and I wish the best for them all. I would like to say a special “Thank You”, to Mr. Dale Martin, the City Manager, for his sincere efforts to help The Maritime Museum of Amelia Island.
